Thomas is a star! The relatives just love him

Well, the boy who got his picture in the Daily Post before he was even born was happy to pose for the cameras again yesterday. The labour ward at the Wrexham Maelor was swarming with relatives - most of them mine and Kate's.

HE'S MADE IT - THOMAS JAMES DAVIES IS BORN TODAY!

Thomas James Davies was born at three minutes to nine this evening, Saturday, February 24, 2007, weighing 7lb 3oz. What can I say! We're thrilled beyond words. He's a wonderful, healthy and really cute little boy and Kate and I are simply over the moon. I held him in my arms this evening and could not believe that he was my son. It's just fantastic.

It's been a stressful and extremely tiring day - but it all came right in the end. Kate had to be induced because her waters went yesterday and the midwives and doctors at Wrexham Maelor did not want to risk her getting an infection by waiting too long to go into labour. Her contractions were starting anyway though and continued throughout the day.

And she pushed and pushed and pushed - but Thomas just didn't want to come out. Then the doctors realised he was too high up still and then they found he had got his cord wrapped dangerously around him. In the end, he had to be born by caesarean section and I, despite feeling distinctly queasy, held Kate's hand in the operating theatre dressed in a blue gown with a cottton hat on my head as her tum was opened and Thomas pulled out.

I held him in my arms within seconds of the birth and he scrunched up his little face as he looked up at me and slowly his eyes opened. Truly, an amazing, wonderful experience.

I'll write a fuller account tomorrow because I'm too shattered now and anyway I've got a bottle of celebration bubbly chilling which I'm keen to start on. I've left Kate in the hospital with little Thomas sleeping peacefully by her side and I will of course be going straight back there tomorrow. Kate was really brave today and I'm very proud of her. This is the most amazing day of my life, I'm just delighted.

Going to hospital on an egg

Kate and I are not the panicking types and we are, erm, a bit late for our date with the labour ward at the Maelor. We were supposed to be there at 6am - quarter of an hour ago - and are currently sitting here on our sofa having egg on toast to give ourselves a bit of an energy boost for the day ahead.

A day in hospital - and back we go tomorrow

Kate and I have not long got back from the Maelor Hospital here in Wrexham. We have been there all day but were allowed home because there is no sign that Kate is likely to go into labour imminently. However, her waters definitely did break this morning, the nursing staff have confirmed, and she has lost a lot more fluid from the womb throughout the day.

Off to hospital

Kate has rung the labour ward back and they have asked her to go in. I'm taking her now - it doesn't mean today is necessarily the Big Day - but it might be!

breaking news - we think Kate's waters may have broken

A few minutes ago, Kate roused me from sleep to say she thinks her waters are breaking. I don't want to put anyone off their breakfasts but she's just leaked a lot of liquid which could mean that the birth is imminent. She rang the labour ward at Wrexham Maelor a couple of minutes ago and their advice was to leave it an hour and ring back.

week 38 and it's all coming together

PLEASE NOTE - THIS ENTRY WAS ACTUALLY WRITTEN BY KATE (LOGGED IN AS ROB!)

Just two weeks officially left now - how exciting and scary all at the same time. Things are starting to come together as we enter the final phase of the pregnancy. I finally got to go to my leaving do from work to celebrate the start of my maternity leave - it was cancelled the first time because of the snow.

Hospital, paint, and hassle with the bedroom!

Week 37 started with me seeing the midwife for routine checks. Karren my midwife is lovely and she checked me over and listened into Thomas. He was misbehaving - firstly sticking his backside in the air then his heart was going too fast. It should be between 120-160 Thomas was performing at 175-180 so off to the ward for some checks. My mum went with me. I thought by the time we got there his heart rate would have calmed down but it hadn't he was doing up to 188!, however after half an hour of moinitoring he started to behave him self and came within the right range.

Preparations continue - and the 3-week countdown starts

Kate's pregnancy reaches 37 weeks on Tuesday, and that means we have just three weeks to go before Thomas is born. The Big Day may come sooner, or as was the case with me, he might be a few days late. It's scarily possible that as I write this Kate could go into labour right now!

Thomas is now a fully developed baby just waiting to be born and it looks like he is preparing for birth from the inside. He has noticeably dropped in Kate's tum and is pointing downwards head first, which is of course, the right way round.

Week 36 check up

I went to see the midwife earlier and took the 4d scan pictures of Thomas - she was impressed and we agreed he looked a bit squashed! I was measured and things have evened out and I am spot on for week 36. The midwife checked my blood pressure and checked me over.

Only 4 weeks left!

What a few days of highs and lows. The high was seeing Thomas in the Daily Post sucking his thumb. It was so amazing it made me cry. Our little boy so real and cute.

See the video of our unborn child!

The video footage of our unborn child is now on the Daily Post website - and Kate and I hope people will enjoy looking at this amazing footage. We went to pregnancy scanning service First Glimpse in Wrexham for the scan and they can actually film the baby using a 4D ultrasound technique - allowing you to see your baby moving in three dimensions.
