More preparations and back to reality!

Time is advancing and I am thankful that this is my last week at work! I have lots of files to update and sort out then I can take my maternity leave with peace of mind I hope! Yesterday I went shopping with my best friend Claire to get some things for Thomas's room. We have now kitted out the room and got all accessories. Not mentioned to Rob all the essentials we bought as he might think I have been spending again, as if!

A First Glimpse at our little boy

Ever since Thursday evening I have been trying to put into words the 4d scan we had at First Glimpse in Wrexham. Three days later I am no further forward and words fail me to describe how it felt to see Thomas in the womb for the first time as a proper baby and our little boy.

Up in the night and excited about the scan

Week 34 started better than week 33. I am on the mend after the events of last week. The antibiotics have kicked in and my asthma is under control again. The aches and pains are better too but Spatze ( our cat) and I have had to have an extra sleep the last couple of days. We have both been up in the night me with asthma and Spatz being sick. Rob moaned about broken sleep as I cleared up after my furry baby which made me smile given Thomas's arrival in the next five weeks!

Medication helping Kate to feel a lot better

I'm glad to report that things have calmed down a bit with Kate. She seems to be responding well to the medication she has been given - inhalers and steroids for her asthma and antibiotics for her chest infection. I was worried to see that she had been put on Prednisolone, a steroid which I would describe as unpleasant.

However the risk to the foetus appears to be very low from the research I have done on the internet. It's not a drug which anyone would want to take for any length of time, however and hopefully she won't need to. I once had to take it myself for an eye inflammation and I was very relieved when I came off it.

A bad couple of weeks for me, Thomas, Rob and the cat

Half way through week 33 I look back at quite a hectic couple of weeks! Rob has eloquently kept the blog up to date as I have been otherwise disposed! It all started at the start of week 32 with a trip to the vets. Our cat Spatze ( my furry baby) hasn't been well, he has been losing fur under his tummy and getting thinner so knowing how much he hates the vets we bravely took him only to find he had to go again for a blood test.

Rob was at work as always so I took him. He cried all the way in the car, screamed at the vets and then cried all the way home by which time I was also crying. The whole eposiode with Spatze got me thinking about being a mum to little Thomas and how much worse it would be if he were poorly.

A quick update on a difficult day

Kate was relatively bright when I left her this evening, around an hour after the official chucking out time of 8pm at the Maelor Hospital. I was relieved because she was very emotional earlier and I was very worried about her spending the night there.

Kate admitted to hospital by ambulance after two serious asthma attacks

Famous last words from me on my last entry - which I now regret writing because it was tempting fate. Within minutes of posting that entry I had a phone call from Kate at the local doctor's surgery to say she had had a very bad asthma attack in the waiting room and needed to be admitted to hospital and would I go and pick her up and take her. I then had a call from a nurse to say that Kate had had a second serious asthma attack and the baby's heart was racing due to the nebuliser inhaler she had been given. An ambulance had been called and she was being given oxygen.

A hectic few days and now Kate is ill again

Nearly a week gone already since our last entry and again I find myself asking, where does the time go? Kate and I have had a very hectic few days working on the spare room which will soon have a different name. It will of course, be called Thomas's room.

Unborn Thomas is already costing us a fortune!

Apologies for the lack of entries over the last few days. Time just seems to be whizzing by and hurtling towards the Big Day when Thomas will make his arrival. He is due in early March but could come earlier than that of course. We're now in week 32 so we're approaching the point where it's possible to survive a premature birth with no harm done.

Morale low as the flu bug strikes

As Kate mentioned earlier, the pair of us were both ill today and spent most of the day in bed snuffling, and feeling sorry for ourselves. I hate taking days off work - no really - but I was a shivering wreck.
And the problem is that now Kate is so heavily pregnant, I should be waiting on her hand and foot - particularly if she's ill. Trouble is, if I'm also ill, that's not a lot of fun and I feel a bit guilty I wasn't looking after her today as I should have done.

A day in bed for all four of us

Went to the doctor’s today, saw my GP, she confirmed what I thought - that I have a chest infection. She listened to my chest and said, ‘yes a definite chest infection’.

Feeling ill and hormonal

Week 31 started today with a routine check up with the midwife. Karen my community midwife is so kind and that makes the world of difference. Having a friendly face when hormonal is great. I was very tearful today and Karen’s kindness was much appreciated.
